A Break in the Season ...

March 30, 2007 / by jondude

The sky is clear blue. It is Friday morning. There has to be a reason.

I think I found a reason. I'm going out to a driving range. My clubs have been in the trunk of my car for three weeks.

Time's a wasting! Time to work out those wintry kinks. Time to recall that easy swing and feel when the face of the club happens to suddenly make contact with the ball and puts the little white orb in flight.

Yes. What a waste of time. I'm going to love it!

Later...

[THUMBUP] you deserve it Jon after the recent events that have suffered [HEART][HEART]

Thanks, Wanda! The cats are fine and I'm in need of a break from painting. On Monday morning I began five canvasses. Only two, maybe 3 will ever be finished. I already painted out two of them that were awful! Frustration!

i know of that feeling today! it has been quite hectic. I tried to get Heroditus, but they did not have it. But i try again on Monday at a booksellers. I am wondering, if it will be a 'complete' works or we have to chose which episode of his life, ourselves. i would love to have them all, if necessary. the only reference my local library had was from other, contemporaries. Annoying!

Great line from the movie "Patriot Games." Samuel L. Jackson character, while playing gold, asked our hero, "Do you know why they call it golf?" Then answered: "Because all the other four-letter words were taken."

    Have a good time, Jon.

Now there is no way "gold" instead of "golf" can be a Freudian slip. Unless you're King Midas for whom gold had become a bad thing.
  • jondude said 1 years ago
I thought you meant the "gold" tees! Most courses have Blue or white tees for men, red tees for the ladies, and some have gold tees set either farter back or between the genders. Black tees are way back and are for championships and pros. I play blue or white, depending on my partners' choices. Easy typo!

that sounds like a great idea. I haven't been out on the driving range since I moved from New York, although I often meant to. Once I get over this current affliction, I'll be joining you.

I hit four buckets of balls. The pro gave me the last bucket free! 200 balls! Most were straight, but I hit a terrible hook on one 6 iron shot. My best shots were with my 3, 5 and 7 fairway metals and my 7, 8 and the short wedges. I'm ready!
  • honeybugg3 said 1 years ago
according to Tiger, its not a "hook", its a "fade". My "fades" are so bad, people stand directly in front of me to avoid being hit. Now I could make some crude, off color comment about all those balls, but I am much too ladylike for that.[WINK]

Tee 'em high and let 'em fly! [THUMBUP]
  • jondude said 1 years ago
I hung up my drivers. Now my long club is a 3 wood, 13 degrees loft. I can smack the crap out of it and get more distance than with the drivers. I had four of the damned things! Nowadays I want a heavier mass in the clubhead, and the drivers are all thin titanium with very little mass. I also tee very low, just about the height of the very top part of the tee. about 1/4 inch off the ground. Sometimes I hit off the grass from the tee. It works with my swing.

My ex-husband (now deceased) was an avid golfer. I could never get into the game, though I tried when we first married.[THUMBUP][OHMY][WINK]

Okay, then tee 'em low and let 'em go! Man, how I used to love playing golf. I'll admit it: I was obsessed, driven, crazed. I used to have a 2 handicap, played in lots of district and a couple national amateur tournaments, was even the girls' golf coach at Notre Dame Academy for a couple years. Loved those players. We won everything, they even went on to win the Ohio State Girls Golf Championship. So proud of those kids! Ahhh, the pre-fibromyalgia days!

"easy Swing"indeed. Last one I had was ,er, can't remember. Over and out.
  • islandgirl said 1 years ago
Grip it and rip it Jon....from a fellow golfer. You just need to think about moving to Florida, then you can play all year long! I just started playing 3-1/2 years ago....am down to a 19 handicap! I'm happy with that. My sweetie, Slickster, and I go out and play quite often, especially now that the snowbirds are gone and the prices have come back down.
Keep working at the range....I need to go more than I do...but we did buy a practice net for the backyard, so at least I can hit some and work on the important stuff like set-up, grip, etc.[THUMBUP]
